Lamps And Other Devices To Help You See
20th February 2010 by Cataracts No CommentsEveryone needs good light to be able to see well but as we get older the need for good strong light increases. With each passing decade our eyes deteriorate and begin to struggle to focus. Without good lighting the eyes can become strained as they try to focus.
One of the first things people notice as their eyes begin to deteriorate is that reading becomes difficult. Focusing become problematic with lots of shifting the book back and forth, and the text somehow doesn’t seem to show well against the paper.Gradually the joy of sitting down and reading a book begins to lose its shine.
One of the best and easiest ways to help your eyes is to start using daylight bulbs. Daylight bulbs are designed to replicate sunlight and give off a bright, white light. So when you’re reading it’s no longer black text against a dingy yellow tinted page. Instead you’ll find that the text in a book is crisp and stands out against the now white paper.
If you do a lot of crafts then a craft magnifying lamp is just what you need. The magnify glass part will allow you to see small things more easily while the lamp shines its light directly onto what you are looking at. For extra clear light many come fitted with daylight bulbs.
However not all daylight bulbs are the same. Cheaper bulbs are often like normal ones but given a blue hue. Full spectrum daylight bulbs, on the other hand, throw out the same spectrum of light as you get from the sun. This is why they are used in SAD lamps for use by people with Seasonal Affective Disorder. They don’t have to be just used by those suffering from SAD, they give excellent light for all.
Good lighting is essential to avoid eye strain and headaches. Getting the right lighting can make an enormous difference to everyday indoor tasks.
