Keen On Contact Lenses ? Here’s The Truth
27th August 2011 by Cataracts No CommentsContact lenses have changed the lives of millions and millions of people all over the world, but many people are still unclear about the products. There are often questions about who can or can’t wear them, when and when they can or can’t be worn etc etc…so let’s throw some light on the matter.
1. Children can’t wear contact lenses. This is the first myth – people of any age can wear contacts. It’s up to your eye doctor to first examine your eyes and make recommendations – some babies have even worn contacts….and so have some great grannies!.
2. Contact lenses are uncomfortable. People get used to wearing contacts very quickly even though they may feel a little strange in the beginning. There may be the very rare occasion where someone feels some discomfort, but the eye specialist can generally sort that out.
3. It isn’t possible to play any type of sport if you wear contacts. Myth number three….. you can happily wear contacts to play sport – that’s why it’s called ‘contact sport’! (joke…..)… Seriously, sport and contacts DO go together.
4. Caring for contact lenses is time-consuming. If cleaning is a concern, why not consider disposable contact lenses? You clean your teeth, right ? It’s the same with keeping your contact lenses clean – you just have to make it a habit.
5. Wearing contacts causes infections in the eye. Most people wear contact lenses for a lifetime without any issues, but if infections do occur, these are generally associated with an unsatisfactory cleaning routine.
6. The contact lens will get stuck behind my eye. It is physically impossible for that to happen because the thin membrane (conjunctiva) connects the eye to the eyelids, so the lens always stays on the front of the eye.
7. What happens if my contact lens gets stuck to my eye. Contact lenses can’t get stuck to the lens, and should always be easy to remove. Sometimes, a little patience and practice is required.
8. Contact lenses are pricey. Contact lenses don’t cost any more than glasses do, and there are generally very good deals available online, even from the leading brands such as Johnson and Johnson.
Now that the myths have been busted, all you have to do is make sure you keep your contact lenses sparkling clean says a leading online contact lenses supplier in Perth, Australia, Student Contact Lenses.
