Designer Eyeglass Frames
16th May 2010 by Cataracts No CommentsDesigner glasses leads the eyeglass merchandising marketplace in sales. The majority of us when trying on frames have a tendency to gravitate to manufacturers that we have confidence in. Usually the designer brands will also be the priciest ones so in this post we’ll talk about buying frames on the web.
Virtually any optical shop will make lenses for your frames, it’s not necessary to buy the frames from your retailer. We have a expanding trend toward purchasing on the internet and even though merchants aren’t too pleased with this, there is not a great deal they are able to do about it. Besides, lenses are a high markup product, they aren’t going to starve because you purchased the frames on the web.
The other option would be to take your Rx to an online store which also does lenses.
The main benefit for you is clearly the cost. Online designer frames can be as much as 70% off of full price and although this may be a bit extreme, savings of 40% - 50% have become much the norm.
In order for this to work you have to be in a position to know what shape you are likely to would like for your new glasses. The reason I prefer to do my lenses locally is it allows me a chance to go and try on frames without feeling too guilty.
But there’s another choice…
The option is perfect for the genuinely hi-tech and it is a virtual try on: http://www.visionexpress.com/tryon/ where you can upload a snapshot of your face and test frames until your hearts content. That is a fairly neat program and will help you choose that ideal shape from the comfort and ease of your home computer. Just add a snapshot and you are good to go.
Once you have the shape you are able to go shopping. Just Google “Discount Eyeglass Frames” and you will have all the shopping you would like right in front of you. Choose 2 or 3 of the biggest and call them on their 800 line to discuss your requirements.
When you take this particular strategy and do all of it online all you need is to send them your Rx and they will ship you back your glasses.
One more idea, if you do plan on having your Rx filled in your area, take a look at selling prices on Ebay they are as close to wholesale as you’ll probably get anywhere.
Good luck and enjoy your new glasses.
